RENO, NV, November 04, 2026 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Steve K. Mashour, MD, FCCP, has been recognized for achievement in medical pulmonary and sleep services.
Dr. Mashour's professional journey is distinguished by his commitment to accessible, evidence-based pulmonary and sleep care in Northern Nevada. In December 2024, he founded Reno Pulmonary and Sleep Center, establishing a solo practice with the aim of addressing the significant wait times local patients faced when seeking specialized care.
As founder and physician, Dr. Mashour has created a practice environment that prioritizes direct patient access and high-quality service. His office operates with a dedicated team, including a full-time office manager, front desk staff member and medical assistant, as well as part-time support from a referral and marketing specialist and a respiratory therapist who assists with pulmonary function testing.
Dr. Mashour's approach has resulted in a fully booked schedule, often seeing more than 20 patients per day, with referrals scheduled about six weeks out. He takes particular pride that many patients are referred by others who have benefited from his care, reflecting the strong reputation he has built within the community.
Prior to launching his solo practice, Dr. Mashour spent six years as a physician at Mountain Medical Pulmonary and Sleep Center in Carson City. During this period, he navigated the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, adapting to restrictions on in-person visits by utilizing telemedicine to continue serving patients with chronic respiratory conditions such as emphysema, asthma and interstitial lung disease. Despite limited hospital access and evolving safety protocols, Dr. Mashour remained focused on safeguarding the health of his vulnerable patient population.
Earlier in his career, Dr. Mashour was affiliated with St. Mary's Medical Group for three years, where he contributed to pulmonary and sleep medicine services within the St. Mary's Health System. Before this role, he began his professional path at Pulmonary Medicine Associates, a large group practice where he spent 10 years developing expertise across critical care medicine, general pulmonary care, asthma treatments and sleep medicine.
Dr. Mashour is recognized for his subspecialty in chronic cough management, an area in which he has achieved notable success helping patients find relief from long-standing symptoms that had not responded to previous treatments. His board certifications include pulmonary disease and critical care through the American Board of Internal Medicine. He also maintains an active medical license in Nevada.
In addition to his clinical accomplishments, Dr. Mashour's professional affiliations further underscore his standing in the field. Dr. Mashour is a fellow of the American College of Chest Physicians.
The foundation for Dr. Mashour's career was established through rigorous academic preparation and advanced training. He earned his Doctor of Medicine from the University of Nevada, Reno School of Medicine after completing a Bachelor of Science in nutrition science at the University of California, Davis.
Dr. Mashour's postgraduate training included three years at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, Michigan, followed by a fellowship in pulmonary diseases, critical care medicine, and sleep medicine in 2004 at Henry Ford Health. These experiences shaped his clinical focus; rotations during medical school exposed him to intensive care environments and solidified his interest in adult medicine due to its alignment with his strengths and instincts.
Reflecting on his career, Dr. Mashour credits much of his success to the unwavering support of his family, particularly his wife and children. Their encouragement was instrumental during the demanding early days of establishing his solo practice and continues to motivate him as he advances professionally.
Beyond clinical duties, Dr. Mashour is actively involved in civic initiatives throughout Northern Nevada. Alongside his sons, he contributes to Boys Teen Charity food, book, and clothing drives for those in need within the community. His involvement extends to Bishop Manogue Catholic High School, where he has helped renovate athletic facilities by helping build barbecue pits and painting fences and dugout areas.
Recognition for Dr. Mashour's contributions includes nominations for Business of the Year in Northern Nevada healthcare as well as receiving CMS Stage 1 EHR recognition in 2013 for implementing an electronic health record.
Originally from Hayward, California, Dr. Mashour values time spent with family, traveling, playing ice hockey and listening to music outside of work. He is dedicated to expanding Reno Pulmonary and Sleep Center by adding new providers and increasing capacity so that more patients can receive timely care without extended wait periods. Plans are underway to hire additional nurse practitioners and secure a dedicated building for the practice as part of ongoing efforts to enhance service delivery for the community he serves.
