You Can Build a Bridge Where?

Bridges. Movies have been made about them. Songs have been written about them. Although, it's pretty unlikely that a movie or song will ever be written about a dental bridge.

/24-7PressRelease/ - NEW YORK, NY, June 27, 2008 - A dental bridge accomplishes the same thing as any other type of bridge. Spanning treacherous terrain, it gets "you" from one side to the other. In this case, the "you" is food, gum or beverages. And the treacherous terrain is a broken or missing tooth.

Will the Bridge Have Railings or a Scenic Overlook?

Well, no. A dental bridge isn't 'exactly' like other bridges, but it certainly accomplishes the same thing. Let's discuss some of the details. Dental bridges are used to cross over and support the area around missing teeth. If you lose a tooth playing sports, for example, it's pretty unlikely you'll want to spend the rest of your life with a big, toothless gap in your smile. Your cosmetic dentist will examine the gap, clean up the remains of the broken tooth, or clean out the area of the missing tooth, and determine what type of bridge is appropriate for your situation. The teeth on either side of the gap may need to be reduced in size to accommodate the bridge. If this is necessary, your dentist will give you a local anesthetic so you don't feel a thing.

Next, a putty-like substance is used to take an impression of the gap and the one tooth on either side. This will become the mold from which the actual bridge is designed. It will fit precisely over the whole area and look so natural that most people won't know it's a dental bridge unless you tell them.

Dental Bridges Are Like Any Other

Indeed they are. A dental bridge is just as structurally sound and well-built as any other type of bridge. A dental bridge allows food and drink to "cross over" the gap that would otherwise cause a lot of problems, possibly even gum disease. A dental bridge fits beautifully among the natural surroundings.

Even though dental bridges aren't glamorous enough for the movies, they are certainly a thing of beauty. If you need one, you'll understand once it's been 'built and installed' for you. Who knows? You might even start singing about it!
