/24-7PressRelease/ - SAN LUIS OBISPO, CA, August 21, 2008 - Whether you do your swimming at the local community pool or in your own backyard, you may not be swimming alone. Cryptosporidium parvum, a nasty little bug making headlines in recent weeks, may be silently lurking within the water and chlorine isn't enough to kill it. Ozone systems, such as those manufactured by California-based DEL Ozone Inc., are the most effective method for eliminating recreational water illness (RWI) and keeping the dangerous Crypto parasite out of the water.
"Working with National Sanitation Foundation (NSF) International, our systems have been third-party validated to eliminate more than 99.9% of RWI-causing bacteria including Cryptosporidium, as well as E. coli and Pseudomonas," said Beth Hamil, DEL Ozone VP, Corporate Compliance. "What makes ozone so powerful is that, unlike with chlorine, Crypto cannot become immune to ozone."
And as fans of the Olympic Games, anxious to become the next Michael Phelps or Dara Torres, go rushing to their community pool, they may need to ask a few questions before diving in.
"Adult swimmers, and parents of young swimmers, need to talk to their local facility and find out what is being done to prevent outbreaks," says Hamil. "They need to ask about dual disinfection because chlorine alone isn't enough."
Though Crypto is typically discovered in commercial pools, an outbreak can strike anywhere including a backyard pool or even a spa. Crypto outbreaks endanger swimmers, shut down facilities and cast a dark cloud over one of the nation's favorite activities. DEL's ozone systems offer a solution to the Crypto crisis for both home owners and those who operate commercial facilities.
Established in 1975, DEL Ozone proudly set the standard for ozone usage in zoos and aquariums, pioneered ozone usage in swimming pools and introduced ozone to the spa industry; and DEL offers complete product lines for industrial, winery and food safety applications. Consulting with state health department agencies since 1986, DEL also enjoys a close working relationship with USEPA, CDC, FDA, USDA and NSF. And with a dedication to the green movement for more than 30 years, DEL proudly offers environmentally friendly products and promotes a global reduction in chemical use.
