/24-7PressRelease/ - Chicago, IL, September 21, 2008, Deborah Sims, Cook County Commissioner, has been recognized by the Cambridge Who's Who for demonstrating dedication, leadership and excellence in all aspects of public service.

Ms. Sims has more than 20 years of professional experience and specializes in economic and community development. As Commissioner of Fifth District of Cook County, she is responsible for preparing budgets for elected officials, coordinating employment, ensuring health care and safety as well as economic development. Accomplishments in her career as commissioner include bringing a fresh running water supply to the severely underprivileged city of Ford Heights, bringing the first gas station to Ford Heights and generating more than 12 million dollars to the economic structure of the district.

Motivated by her mentors who include her mother and Wilson Frost, Commissioner Sims developed an interest and passion for community service and was sworn in as commissioner in 1994. She currently serves as the vice chairperson of the Finance Committee, chair of the Tax Delinquency sub-committee and the Oak Forest Hospital committee.

Ms. Sims began her career as an employee in the credit and collections department of Material Service. She was the first African American employed at Evergreen Plaza Bank in the forced place insurance division after being promoted from receptionist. With hard work and dedication, she developed her community relations skills as a youth intervention worker in the city of Chicago's Department of Human Services as well as working in the Circuit Court of Cook County Chief Judges' office.

With a life focused on service to the community, Ms. Sims has received an honorary Associate of Arts degree from South Suburban College, serves as President of the National Association of Black County Officials, board member of Neighbor Space, and the founder of One Vision, her own not-for-profit foundation. She is a member of the Salem Baptist Church of Chicago. As Commissioner, Ms. Sims has a mission to ensure that residents have a clear understanding of how their tax dollars work and is determined to keep property taxes low.
