DALLAS, GA, December 10, 2008 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Dr. Kathryn D. Melton, Founding President and Executive Director of Shepherd's Rest Ministries, Inc, has been recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for showing dedication, leadership and excellence in all aspects of non-profit management.

With 25 years of professional experience, Dr. Melton excels in individual and group counseling, training, conducting workshops and seminars, and working with women's recovery issues including domestic violence, advocacy for victims, and substance abuse recovery. As Executive Director, she is responsible for managing the operations of the battered women's shelter including staff, volunteers, and administrative duties, serving and advocating for victims of domestic violence, and providing training in domestic violence issues.

Shepherd's Rest Ministries evolved through her own private counseling practice as she worked more and more with victims of domestic violence, assisting them in rescue missions, safety plans, law, and court issues. Since opening Shepherd's Rest Battered Women's Shelter in December 1997, the shelter has housed over 1,600 women and children, and has assisted almost 2,000 victims in obtaining Temporary Protection Orders through the court system to help protect them from their abusers. Dr. Melton was recognized as the Task Force Member of the Year for the State of Georgia in 2007 and received the National Eckerd100 Volunteer of the Year Award in 1999. She attributes her success to her faith in God.

Dr. Melton received her PhD in Counseling and Psychology from Cornerstone University in 1993 and is a member of the Georgia Christian Counselor's Association, the Georgia Commission on Family Violence, the Georgia Coalition Against Domestic Violence and the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence. She aspires to soon open a transitional house in addition to Shepherd's Rest's emergency battered women's shelter to provide longer-term assistance to hurting and abused women and children.
