ATLANTA, GA, January 04, 2009 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Invisalign is a great option for people who have to receive orthodontic treatment, but are looking for something other than typical metal braces. The Invisalign process can be faster and less painful that traditional braces, depending on what condition your teeth are in. It is also less expensive than instant orthodontics using porcelain veneers, but it does not provide some of the other benefits like tooth reshaping and simultaneous whitening.

Invisalign Benefits

Some of the benefits of using Invisalign, rather than traditional braces are:

• The trays are clear so one can tell that you are currently undergoing an orthodontic procedure
• The trays are custom made for your mouth, so they will feel comfortable
• The trays are made of a smooth material that will not irritate your gums, cheeks or tongue
• They are removable, so you can eat and drink without problems as well as brush and floss normally
• They are comfortable to wear and move the teeth gradually so you don't suffer the pain of traditional braces
• They don't impede your speech because they are not as big and bulky as metal braces can be
• You don't have to wait until the end of the treatment process to see results

The Process

The Invisalign process involves several steps, beginning with a thorough examination by your dentist. During this consultation, your dentist will discuss your specific condition and explain all of your options to you. Your dentist will be able to determine if Invisalign is going to be the best method of treatment for your needs.

Next, your dentist will put together a treatment plan that will outline what you can expect throughout the duration of the process. This plan will outline how many aligners you will need and how often you will need to change them out. Typically you will switch out your aligners every two weeks.

Your teeth will move slowly, which is why most people don't experience much pain with this form of treatment. Each aligner is custom designed for your mouth, so it will fit your teeth perfectly and not irritate your soft mouth tissue. You will also start notice a difference in your smile long before the whole process is completed.

During the duration of your treatment, you will need to see your dentist about every six weeks. That way they can properly monitor your progress and determine if you are on schedule. For most patients, the process will be completed in one year.

Are You a Good Candidate?

Not everyone is a candidate for Invisalign and it's important to meet with an experienced Invisalign provider before deciding on this form of treatment. Typically you are a good candidate if you suffer from any of the following conditions:

• Crowded teeth
• Gaps or wide spaces between teeth
• Crossbites
• Overbites
• Underbites

And have good general oral health.
