MAGGIE VALLEY, NC, January 24, 2009 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Hattie Caldwell Davis, author of six books, has been recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for showing dedication, leadership and excellence in all aspects of writing.

With more than 12 years of professional experience, Mrs. Davis specializes in genealogy and historical writing. She conducted much research for the six books she has written and takes pride in preserving the history of the Cataloochee people. These books are the only documented history of the people who lived in an isolated valley for 100 years before they were evicted by the government to make the valley part of the Great Smokey Mountain National Park. Mrs. Davis also speaks publicly on the subject matter. Her books on Appalachian culture have been used in several colleges and they are purchased for eight Visitors Centers by the Great Smoky Mountain Association. Her books are sold in local books stores and gift and craft shops. Mrs. Davis signs her books at arts and crafts shows.

Mrs. Davis attended Waynesville Community College and various other colleges including Georgia Tech, where she studied gems, gemology and geology, as she moved around the country. While living in Altanta, GA, she worked for the prestigious jewelers Bailey Banks & Biddle on Peachtree Road selling diamonds.

Later, she married Dr. Allan Davis and they lived in Florida for a number of years. After Dr. Davis died she moved back to Maggie Valley to take care of her mother and launched her writing career. She is a member of the Genealogy and Historical Societies of Haywood County and a former member of the Geological Institute of America.
