Lights Out And Green Lights For Two Popular New York Eco-Eateries

Eco Eatery owner Sean Meenan gets a jumpstart on Earth Day by honoring Earth Hour at Cafe Habana on March 28th and hosting a free Earth Day Expo, April 18th and 19th at Habana Outpost

BROOKLYN, NY, March 26, 2009 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Lights Out And Green Lights For Two Popular New York Eco-Eateries

LIGHTS OUT - CAFE HABANA TURNS OFF LIGHTS FOR EARTH HOUR
Saturday, March 28th from 8:30 - 9:30 pm
The popular Nolita restaurant, Cafe Habana will be turning its lights off along with other households and businesses in over 1500 cities and 80 countries in a worldwide effort to "Vote Earth!" for Earth Hour 2009. Last year, participants of Earth Hour included San Francisco's Golden Gate Bridge, Rome's Coliseum, the Sydney Opera House and the Coca Cola Billboard in Times Square. " Turning off the lights in my restaurant for an hour may not seem as significant as say - turning off a billboard in Times Square but I think that being aware of Earth Hour while sipping a mojito by candlelight is more likely to open a meaningful dialogue among the people who pass by that night. I plan to be there myself." says owner Sean Meenan.

GREEN LIGHTS - EARTH DAY EXPO at HABANA OUTPOST
Saturday and Sunday, March April 18th and 19th
Long before President Obama put ideas like "Green Recovery" and "New Energy" into our everyday vocabulary, Sean Meenan was starting his own green revolution in Fort Greene, Brooklyn. Habana Outpost (New York's First Solar Powered Restaurant) has been Meenan's labor of love since 2005, where his goal is to present sustainability to the public in a way that is actually fun. Some "green" highlights of Habana Outpost are; a Human Powered Bike Blender, picnic tables made of recycled soda bottles, harvesting rainwater to flush the toilets and a company car that runs on vegetable oil.

This year, Sean Meenan plans kick off his 2009 season with an Earth Day Expo. The two day free event will feature Green Crafts and face painting for children sponsored by Habana Works and The Leadership Learning Lab, a Kid's Eco-Fashion Show with the Scrapkins, and a Recycled Art Show featuring the art work of local students. There will also be plenty of information for adults - groups like Green Homes NYC, Transportation Alternatives, Green Spaces and Brooklyn Green Drinks will be on hand as well as Habana Outpost suppliers; Solar Energy Systems, Tri State Bio Diesel and Rolling Press. We hope you will join us for two days of Good Green Fun, Habana Outpost-style!
