Resume Great Vision with ReZoom

The ReZoom Multifocal Intraocular Lens (IOL) treats cataracts by replacing the natural lens. It offers the opportunity to see up close and at a distance with little or no need for glasses or contact lenses.

SEATTLE, WA, May 03, 2009 /24-7PressRelease/ -- The ReZoom Multifocal Intraocular Lens (IOL) treats cataracts by replacing the natural lens. It offers the opportunity to see up close and at a distance with little or no need for glasses or contact lenses. For those who have worn eyeglasses or contacts for many years, ReZoom can provide independence from corrective lenses for the first time.

Understanding Cataracts

A cataract occurs when proteins in the eye's natural lens begin to clump as the eye ages. They reduce the crucial transparency of the lens, blocking light from reaching the retina. Vision becomes hazy or blurry. You might also experience light sensitivity, double vision and difficulty with night vision.

While cataracts start out small, they grow over time and left untreated can cause blindness. A consultation with your eye surgeon is necessary to determine whether it is time for cataract surgery.

Cataracts occur most often in older individuals although one type of cataract can occur in children. Risk factors include:

• Family history of cataracts
• Smoking
• Eye disease or injury
• Some medications, such as steroids

In past years the only IOLs for treating cataracts were monofocal. They gave clear vision at only one distance, which meant you needed glasses or contacts for other distances. ReZoom is one of the more recent IOLs and has a proprietary design to give clear vision at all distances.

How ReZoom Can Restore Your Vision

The advanced technology offered by ReZoom allows your eye surgeon to remove your cataractous lens and replace it with a clear, artificial lens. The ReZoom design is known as Balanced View Optics Technology.

It features five concentric zones built into the lens, each of which handles incoming light differently. The central zone bends the light most sharply and each zone out towards the lens periphery bends it a little less sharply. That creates clear images on the retina. The zones are proportioned so you can see comfortably and clearly in low light and bright light and all light conditions in between.

This means ReZoom patients may not have to wear glasses or reading glasses for everyday tasks.

Growing older does not mean you must live with poor vision, and ReZoom has proven to be an excellent solution for millions of cataract patients. If you have been diagnosed with cataracts and daily tasks are becoming more difficult, it may be time to talk to your eye surgeon about ReZoom multifocal lenses.

If you are in Seattle, Washington or a nearby community, why not schedule a consultation with Dr. Kent Leavitt of Bellevue Lasik and Cornea.
