"Unrepaired clefts are a social death sentence for these individuals."
ATLANTA, GA, February 20, 2018 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Dr. Mike Majmundar and his team will be traveling to Guatemala on Saturday, March 3rd, 2018, to provide high-quality, no-cost surgeries for people with acquired and congenital facial deformities, especially cleft lip and palates. Though clefts are usually thought of as a condition involving young children, many of these children develop into adults because of lack of appropriate access to surgical repair of these defects also frequently need our services.
Based out of Atlanta, Georgia, Dr. Mike Majmundar, a double board certified facial plastic and reconstructive surgeon, founded Second Chance Surgeries, a 501c3 designated charity. By donations collected through the charity, Dr. Majmundar is able to vastly improve facial plastic surgery care to impoverished countries. "Unrepaired clefts are a social death sentence for these individuals. Children are kept from attending schools because of ridicule, and these same children grow up to become adults who have been socially shunned by their community, forced to live alone and panhandle for their survival. Even caretakers who have jobs make less than $1-2 a day making it difficult for them to even consider getting their prescriptions filled, let alone a surgical procedure," says Dr. Majmundar.
"Making a donation to Second Chance Surgeries, Inc., allows us to continue to provide specialized facial plastic surgery care to individuals with various facial deformities around the world. All donations are tax deductible. Without organizations like us, impoverished adults and children would not have the specialized facial plastic surgery care needed to lead a normal life."
"Over the last several years, we have made repeated trip to Central America to aid adults and children with acquired or congenital facial deformities," says Dr. Majmundar. "The future is exciting. We are planning expansion of the countries we visit in Central America and fostering relationships in South America as well as Asia and Africa. Increasing the number of surgical specialists to assist in the areas we visit and increasing the amount of medical, in addition to surgical, care we provide individuals."
