WARKWORTH, AK, NEW ZEALAND, November 9, 2012 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Sam Malcolmson, the Chief Executive Officer of Snowy Peak Ltd., a company that provides knitwear made of Merino wool and Brushtail Possum fibre, has been recognized by Worldwide Who's Who for showing dedication, leadership and excellence in luxury brand apparel management for the parent company of Untouched World , Merinomink and Snowi.
Having always had a penchant for apparel and footwear since his youth, Sam Malcolmson attributes his success to having a good attitude and strong communication skills, gleaned from being a successful team player. Prior to joining the luxury knitwear business, Mr. Malcomson served in the Royal Navy and had a career as an international professional football player. In 1969, while stationed at R.N.A.S. Culdrose in Cornwall, he played football for Falmouth Town A.F.C. and St. Austell. Before immigrating to New Zealand in 1974, Mr. Malcolmson went on to play for the Airdrieonians, a Scottish professional football team from the town of Airdrie, Queen of the South and the Albion Rovers Football Club in Scotland. A capable defender and striker who scored more than 50 goals for the New Zealand National League, he represented the All Whites at the 1982 FIFA World Cup finals in Spain and played 32 times for his adopted country.
Taking with him to the retail industry more than 30 years of professional expertise in senior management, mentoring, life coaching and sports coaching, Mr. Malcolmson was well suited to assume his position as CEO of Snowy Peak Ltd. two years ago. In this capacity, he oversees all daily operations of the business, including strategic planning, finances and customer relations. In addition, he works effectively with the staff management team, keeping an open door policy so lines of communication remain open.
Established in 1981 and named after the high country property in Canterbury in the South Island of New Zealand, Snowy Peak Ltd. continually improves the ecological and social footprint of its collections. The use of possum fibre in New Zealand benefits the environment by contributing to a reduction in the use of broadcast poisons, which in turn protects native forests and birds. When blended with high crimp, fine Merino, a luxuriously soft, lightweight and very warm garment is created. In 1992, Snowy Peak Ltd. pioneered the use of Brushtail Possum fibre blended with wool, launching Merinomink , the global benchmark for designer Merino and possum knitwear, on the market in 1996.
In 1998, Untouched World , an ethical lifestyle fashion and retail concept was launched. Full of simple, understated and artistic multitasking pieces perfect for day to evening, work to weekend, travelling from hemisphere to hemisphere. Untouched World was created with social, cultural and environmental sustainability in mind. More recently, in 2010, the Snowi line, a diffusion line of Merinomink , joined the Snowy Peak Ltd. set of collections, sporting all the gorgeous performance properties of Merinomink , but with a simpler design aesthetic and an affordable price. Proud to be in his leadership role with such a successful knitwear company dedicated to maintaining a healthy, dynamic future for our planet, Mr. Malcolmson looks forward to continued growth of the business in New Zealand as well as in the Australian market.
Mr. Malcomson holds a diploma in electronic engineering, as well as several Royal Naval Artificer qualifications and Football Association coaching certificates. In his spare time, he is an after dinner speaker, does a weekly radio show and writes a column for the New Zealand Herald. Aside from his activities with the media, Mr. Malcolmson enjoys golf and thoroughbred horse racing.
