The California Center for Sustainable Energy Brings Its Green Learning Adventure to Pardee Homes' Popular Manzanita Trail Neighborhood in San Diego in Celebration of Earth Month

New home shoppers learned all about energy saving by pedaling an energy-demonstration bike. This interactive display was part of Pardee's Earth Month activities at their new home community, Manzanita Trail, in coastal-close North San Diego County.

SAN DIEGO, CA, May 16, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- The California Center for Sustainable Energy (CCSE) brought its unique Green Learning Adventure to Pardee Homes' Manzanita Trail for a day of interactive activities designed to educate the public about global climate change and sustainable living. As a leader in the green building field, Pardee Homes was excited to offer this program to its residents and home buyers as part of their month-long Earth Day celebration.

"It was fun to interact with the Manzanita Trail home buyers and residents, especially the kids, who stopped by our display at Pardee's EnergySmart event," said Dr. Andrea Cook, climate change program manager for CCSE. "It's really eye-opening for homeowners when they can actually see how much power it takes to run a hair dryer or light an incandescent light bulb versus an LED bulb. Our 'pedal power' bike is an exciting way to demonstrate to everyone, even the youngest energy-conscious participant, how they can do their part to promote energy conservation."

The classic front porch homes at Pardee Homes' Manzanita Trail are not only beautiful and versatile, but offer home buyers a wealth of earth friendly features and options through Pardee's LivingSmart program. This award-winning neighborhood was named California Green Builder's Residential Community of the Year at the 2009 Gold Nugget competition. It was also the 2009 SoCal Awards program's Sustainable Community of the Year, Detached Community of the Year and Buyers Choice Community of the Year for both San Diego County and Southern California.

"The California Center for Sustainable Energy is a very special non-profit organization whose energy awareness programs parallel Pardee's commitment to making a difference everyday in the communities where we build new homes," said Matt Sauls, regional director of marketing for Pardee Homes. "As the first to introduce a whole new concept in 'green' homeownership back in 2001, we have incorporated our LivingSmart program into each and every home we build in an effort to reduce demand, conserve resources, minimize water use and provide cleaner indoor and outdoor air, giving our home buyers a head start on earth-friendly living."

Priced from the low $700,000s, Manzanita Trail's charming street scene and spaciously designed floor plans are accented with authentic Napa Valley, California Craftsman, Coastal Cottage and Spanish architecture. Homes have three to six bedrooms, two and one-half to four baths, and two-bay tandem and three-bay garages. All four floor plans include a downstairs bedroom and such amenities as ceramic tile flooring, fireplaces, dramatic ceilings, high-speed Category 5 wiring and coaxial cable, spacious food storage pantries, gourmet kitchens with convenient food preparation islands and GE or GE Profile Mix appliance packages in stainless steel.

Standard LivingSmart features include Low-E spectrally selective glass windows, low-flow faucets and shower heads, a convenient recycling center discreetly housed in a kitchen cabinet, low-formaldehyde attic insulation, fluorescent lights in select recessed cans, and an energy-efficient 13-SEER air conditioner. Earth-friendly optional features include a SunPower roof-integrated solar electric power system, tankless water heater, on-demand water recirculation pump and a central vacuum system.

As part of the Pacific Highlands Ranch master-planned community, Manzanita Trail is ideally located just east of Carmel Valley with easy access to Interstates 5 and 15 and Highway 56. Residents of this premier community enjoy a state-of-the-art private recreation center with an elegant clubhouse, swimming pool, spa, fitness center, barbecues, and children's water play area.
