Personal Brand Strategist Marva Goldsmith Offers Hope to Unemployed People Over Age 50 - Detroit Native Provides Proven Reinvention Approach for Baby Boomers

Today's competitive marketplace requires that people find their niche and brand themselves in the minds of their target audience.

COLLEGE PARK, MD, September 27, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- According to the Labor Department, more than 2.2 million people over the age of 55 are unemployed. Nearly half of them have been unemployed six months or longer. Re-Branding Yourself After Age 50 provides job seekers and new business owners information about how to position themselves to compete for scarce jobs and new customers. Author and Personal Brand Strategist, Marva Goldsmith started her image and brand management firm more than nine years ago while she was looking for a job. According to Goldsmith, the firm was started as an "in the meantime" activity. Now, she coaches Baby Boomers to apply commercial branding techniques to their reinvention efforts.

Marva Goldsmith will speak at the National AARP Life @50+ Conference in Orlando, FL September 30 - October 2. The book, Re-Branding Yourself After Age 50, will be offered at the Capital Bookfest at Borders Books in Largo, MD on October 2.

Goldsmith suggests, "Baby Boomers cannot rely on traditional methods to find jobs or market themselves in this new economy. You must establish yourself as an expert in your field. You must implement strategies that will distinguish you in a crowded field of competitors." The book, which is both instructional and inspirational, offers stories from 18 other Baby Boomers who have successfully found employment or started new businesses.

Among the contributing authors is Deborah Porter, who after 6 months of unemployment found a job through a new connection on LinkedIn. Goldsmith adds, "In today's business marketplace, it is absolutely essential to embrace the idea of creating an online identity. Like it or not, recruiters and potential clients are Googling you. If you do not have an online identity, which is more than just a profile on Facebook, you place yourself at a competitive disadvantage." Other examples include Sue Ellen Addicott, who after age 60 started a relocation business for seniors moving to Florida. Goldsmith applauds Addicott for branding her expertise through her Internet radio show, Senior Savvy Radio.
