Less Than 100 Days to the Inaugural Freedom Half Marathon in Norfolk, VA

Count down to race day! Registration is open for the Norfolk Freedom Half Marathon Veterans Day Weekend in Norfolk, VA, Nov. 11-13.



    NORFOLK, VA, August 22, 2011 /24-7PressRelease/ -- In less than 100 days Freedom Marathon, Inc. (FMI) and the City of Norfolk, VA will sponsor what hopes to be one of the most rewarding half marathons this year. Runners will gather from around the country during Veterans Day weekend to honor those that have served this country in uniform. The Norfolk Freedom Half Marathon will be held Nov. 11-13.

"This inaugural event is less than 100 days away and we are receiving tremendous feedback and support for this exciting event. People are getting excited about our Veterans Day race," said Manny Cordero, CEO and Founder, Freedom Marathon, Inc. "We are running for an important cause - making life better for veterans and their families.

FMI is a non-profit organization whose mission is to raise awareness and support the needs of Veterans and their families through running events and this is its first half marathon event in VA.

Not only will FMI raise funds for Veterans but they will do so by providing a weekend of fun for the entire family. The Health and Fitness Expo kicks off on Friday and Saturday includes the Kids' Warrior Trot-Freedom Mile. Sunday concludes the event with the Norfolk Freedom Half Marathon, Norfolk Freedom Half Marathon - Wheel Chair Invitational, Norfolk Freedom Half Marathon Two-Person Relay, Norfolk Freedom Half Marathon Cup Challenge followed by the Freedom Post Race Party.

A one-of-a-kind medal will be presented to all who complete the half marathon. The runner's medallion was unveiled last year in Norfolk, VA. It is very detailed 3 dimensional medal encrusted with 12 crystals. The medal can be viewed here.

The Norfolk Freedom Half Marathon is sanctioned by USA Track & Field (USATF), the national governing body for long distance running. Proceeds from this event will benefit The Wounded Warrior Project and the Norfolk Office to End Homelessness
