Healing after your Rhinoplasty - some Common Symptoms

Patients who are preparing for a rhinoplasty surgery will need step-by-step instructions on what to expect and how to care for themselves following nose surgery.

/24-7PressRelease/ - NEW YORK, NY, November 17, 2007 - Patients who are preparing for a rhinoplasty surgery will need step-by-step instructions on what to expect and how to care for themselves following nose surgery. By the time your surgery day arrives, you should feel confident and ready to move forward.

Don't worry about memorizing all of the post-operative information. Your cosmetic surgeon will give you a packet of information that covers your recovery steps and provides a guide for what to do in certain post-surgery scenarios. Every patient is different and has a unique healing timeline, so there's no standard healing time that will tell you exactly what to expect when recovering from your surgery.

Usually, your surgeon will give you general guidelines and then tailor them based on your current health, the extensiveness of your procedure, and your past health history. Most cosmetic surgery centers understand that you will have questions long after you've left the center and will encourage you to notify them of any unusual changes. You will have several post-operative visits to ensure your healing process is playing out normally.

There are a few things that nearly all patients can expect after their rhinoplasty procedure, including:
· Stuffed-Up Feeling
· Swelling and Bruising
· Discomfort
· Nasal Bandaging
· Nasal Splints

In order to help your recover process, you will be prescribed pain medication to take care of any post-operative pain. To help promote proper healing, your nose may be packed with gauze, and routine use of ice or cold packs may be used to help with swelling.

After 1 or 2 weeks, you will return to the surgery center so that your bandages and stitches can be removed. You will be asked to rest easy for the first few days, and may be able to return to work in a week or less. You will most likely be restricted from strenuous activities and exercise for several weeks. And of course, you should not engage in any activities that might put the nose at risk for injury. Lastly, make sure you refrain from rubbing, blowing, picking, bumping, or itching the nose and keep out of the sun for several months after surgery.

Your cosmetic surgeon will give you special instructions on how to wash your nose and let you know when you will be able to use make-up on it again. You will also have restrictions on wearing glasses, and should use contacts as an alternative if possible. The final result of your rhinoplasty procedure may take a few months to be complete.
