Earning the role of principal scientist between 1998 and 2003, he then spent another five years as senior principal scientist before becoming a research fellow. Dr. Enns formerly worked for AT&T Bell Laboratories as a member of their technical staff in Whippany, NJ, and for Midland Macromolecular Institute as a research associate in Midland, MI.

A longtime consultant for Plastics Analysis Instruments, Inc., since 1981 and at his alma mater, Princeton University, during the mid-to-late 1980s, Dr. Enns has contributed many articles to scholarly journals, such as the Journal of Applied Polymer Science, and has contributed chapters to several books. The former editor of North American Thermal Analysis Society Conference Proceedings and Thermochimica Acta, he remains active as a member of the Society of Rheology, member and former program chairman of the American Chemical Society and the North Jersey Thermal Analysis Group, and member of the North American Thermal Analysis Society and the Society of Plastic Engineers, where he has served in various roles.

Responsible for the development of the concept of a liquid-liquid transition in polymers, the time-temperature-transformation (TTT) isothermal cure and continuous-heating-transformation (CHT) cure diagrams for thermosetting polymers, and for applying these concepts to the photopolymerization of crosslinkable monomer units to form 3D objects (e.g., contact lenses) without the use of a mold, Dr. Enns holds 30 patents in his area of expertise. He was the recipient of an Outstanding Service Award from the North American Thermal Analysis Society in 1996 and was elected Fellow of the Society of Plastics Engineers in 2000. He was also awarded Vistakon's President's Award for Outstanding Achievement in R&D Services & Support in 1992.
