After 48 years of professional service, Dr. John Stephen Sennott retired from the field of marital and family therapy in 2017.

After 48 years of professional service, Dr. Sennott retired from the field of marital and family therapy in 2017. Initially his career began as a child protective worker with the MO Division of Family services from 1969 to 1971 in Hillsboro. He then worked as a social services supervisor in Union from 1971 to 1973 and later as a district social services supervisor in Boonville from 1975 to 1978. After earning is Ph.D. in Marital & Family Therapy, he established a private practice in Jefferson City in 1981. He then built, directed and practiced out of Professional Therapy Center in Jefferson City from 1986 to 2017 while also being a member of Jefferson City Medical Group from 1997 to 2017.

In addition to his primary responsibilities, Dr. Sennott has been a staff member of medical facilities over the course of his career including St. Mary's Health Center, Capital Region Medical Center, Memorial Community Hospital, and Charles Still Medical Center. He also contributed his skills to Riverside Hospital as the director of family therapy from 1988-1989, and to Whispering Oaks Hospital as the director of social services in 1990. Outside of his professional path, Dr. Sennott previously donated his time to coaching grade school and junior high athletics and serving as an adult boy-scout leader for St. Joseph School, JC Parks & Recreation, the YMCA and Boy Scouts of America.

Prior to embarking on his career, Dr. Sennott pursued an education at the University of Notre Dame in Indiana where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy in 1969. Following this accomplishment he obtained a Master of Social Work from St. Louis University in 1975. Subsequently he earned a Doctor of Marriage & Family Therapy from Purdue University. A licensed marital & family therapist, clinical social worker and professional counselor, he was also named as a Diplomate by the International Academy of Behavioral Medicine, Counseling and Psychotherapy in 1982. To remain abreast of developments in his field, Dr. Sennott maintained affiliation with the American Association for Marriage & Family Therapy, The National Association of Social Workers, The Academy of Certified Social Workers, the Missouri Association for Marriage & Family Therapy, and the Missouri Association of Social Workers.

For excellence in his career, Dr. Sennott has been the recipient of several honors. Notably, he was elected to both the Honor Society of Agriculture, Gamma Sigma Delta, and the National Honor Society for the Human Sciences, Kappa Omicron Nu. In light of his accomplishments, Dr. Sennott has previously been selected for inclusion in multiple editions of Who's Who in the Midwest and Who's Who of Emerging Leaders in America.
