Colin Mihalik, DDS, MS, has been inducted into the Prestigious Marquis Who's Who Biographical Registry

    CORPUS CHRISTI, TX, January 22, 2020 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Colin Mihalik, DDS, MS, has been inducted into Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. With more than 20 years of orthodontic experience to his credit, Dr. Mihalik has excelled as an orthodontist and since 2018, the owner of CC Braces, Corpus Christi Orthodontics. As an officer in the U.S. Air Force, he worked as an associate professor in the Tri-Service Orthodontic Residency Program, a residency program for U.S. Army, Navy, and Air Force Dental Officers between 2010 and 2014. He provided his wealth of knowledge to the U.S. Air Force as an orthodontic instructor for the Advanced Education in General Dentistry (AEGD) residency where Dr. Mihalik flourished as an orthodontic element chief, a clinical flight commander and an orthodontic instructor at the Scott Air Force Base from 2006 to 2010.

Previously, Dr. Mihalik served as an orthodontic element chief at the Ramstein Air Base in Germany from 2002 until 2006. Moreover, he completed an orthodontic residency at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill between 1999 and 2002. He was additionally active as the assistant director of dental service at the Goodfellow Air Force Base from 1997 until 1999. Dr. Mihalik began his career in the U. S. Air Force as an officer-in-charge for the general dentistry element at the Reese Air Force Base between 1995 and 1997, following his graduation from the US Air Force 1-year AEGD program at Davis-Monthan Air Force Base in Tucson, Arizona.

Before embarking on his professional path, Dr. Mihalik pursued an education in 1986, graduating with a Bachelor of Science in mathematics from Creighton University. His academic education resumed after he finished his service as an officer in the U.S. Army in 1990 at Fort Hood. That same year, he continued his academic efforts at the University of Texas, Health Science Center at San Antonio (UTHSCSA), from which he attained a Doctor of Dental Surgery with magna cum laude honors in 1994, and began his career as a U.S Air Force dental officer. Dr. Mihalik concluded his professional studies at the University of North Carolina, School of Dentistry in 2002, earning a Master of Science in Dentistry and a Certificate in Orthodontics.

In addition to these accomplishments, Dr. Mihalik conducted more than 500 hours of continuing education between 1994 and 1999 and more than 300 hours in the years since his residency. Licensed to practice dentistry in Texas since 1994, he became certified in advanced cardiac life support and intravenous sedation through AEGD residency in 1995. Subsequently, Dr. Mihalik has been board certified by the American Board of Orthodontics since 2005.

Furthermore, Dr. Mihalik was commissioned in the U.S. Army as an Ordnance officer from 1986 until 1990. During this time, he attained the ranks of a platoon leader, a battalion adjutant and a headquarters detachment commander, and received an honorable discharge as a captain in the Army.

Beyond his responsibilities within the field, Dr. Mihalik has participated in numerous endeavors outside of his professional circles. While an undergraduate at Creighton University, he was the chairman of the Little Sisters Committee for the Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity. Additionally, he volunteered at Saint Anthony's Hospital Emergency room and AMC Cancer Research Hospital. While stationed in Germany as an orthodontist, he presented numerous orthodontic cases to local dental society and while stationed in Illinois, he also presented cases to the Saint Clair District Dental Society and a number of Air Force Bases dental meetings. Dr. Mihalik has found success with his written works as well, co-authoring articles for such publications as the American Journal of Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics in 2003 and the Journal of the World Federation of Orthodontists in 2016.

In addition to his primary vocation, Dr. Mihalik remains affiliated with various organizations in relation to his areas of expertise. He has maintained his involvement with the American Association of Orthodontists, the American Association of Military Orthodontists, the American Dental Association and the American Student Dental Association. He has also been associated with the Mu Nu Chapter of the Omicron Kappa Upsilon Honorary Dental Society since 1994. Likewise, Dr. Mihalik is a member of the Southwest Society of Orthodontists and member-at-large for the Nueces County District Dental Society.

In light of his exceptional undertakings, Dr. Mihalik has accrued several accolades throughout his impressive career. He was awarded by the U.S. Army Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) with a Three-Year Full Tuition Scholarship Award and the Military Orders of World Wars Award of Merit. While in dental school, Dr. Mihalik was honored with First Place award in the Dental Students Category for Table Clinics at the 1994 Texas Dental Association Meeting, and received a 1-year Air Force Health Professions Scholarship for his senior year.

Once on active duty in the US Air Force, he was recognized as the Company Grade Officer of the Year by the 64th Medical Group at the Reese Air Force Base in 1996. Additionally, he accepted the Commendation Medal and the Achievement Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster from the U.S. Army as well as the 4 Meritorious Service Medals with Three Oak Leaf Clusters from the U.S. Air Force.

Dr. Mihalik was highlighted on the Dean's List at Creighton University and the University of North Carolina, School of Dentistry. At UTHSCSA, he was selected as one of 10 students to participate in pre-doctoral implantology comprehensive research and clinical elective in 1993 and participated in noteworthy research projects in the Department of Community Dentistry in the early 1990s. He has been presented with the Achievement on the National Boards Part I Award, the Achievement on the National Boards Part II Award, the Predoctoral Achievement Award from the International Congress of Oral Implantologists, and an Achievement Award from the American Equilibration Society. Dr. Mihalik was also the recipient of the Air Force Health Professions scholarship and the UTHSCSA Senior Year Clinical Honors Bay Program scholarship.

Attributing his success to an abiding commitment to hard work and the influence of being an instructor at the Air Force Tri-service Orthodontic Residency Program (TORP), he helped to train all branches of military orthodontic residents and general dentists. Dr. Mihalik retired in 2014 as a colonel in the U.S. Air Force and worked in a large private orthodontic office. He now appreciates the opportunity to work in a smaller office, devoting more attention to each of his patients in order to provide the best orthodontic care, while exceeding patient expectations. He was inspired to seek a career as an orthodontist after having experienced different facets of the dental field throughout his time as a general dentist. Looking toward the future, Dr. Mihalik hopes to give his patients the best orthodontic experience possible, using the latest and the best technology.
