After working as a teacher for more than three decades, he rose to become the president of the Junior High/Middle School Assembly for the National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE). Notably, the organization is dedicated to improving the teaching of English and language arts, as well as providing resources and community guidelines for teachers and educators who work outside the classroom.
