Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Dr. Grim has established a distinguished career in the fields of language education and measurement, marked by her innovative contributions and leadership roles. As the founder of Agora Education Services Inc., based in Boston, Massachusetts, she has continued to influence educational methodologies and practices. In 2025, following significant layoffs at the National Center for Education Statistics, Dr. Grim founded Agora Education Services Inc., a nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving decades of federal education research investments and supporting displaced education professionals.

Prior to founding Agora Education Services Inc., Dr. Grim dedicated 15 years to the U.S. Department of Education's National Center for Education Statistics in Washington, D.C., where she served as an education statistician, psychometrician and study director for the Middle Grades Longitudinal Study from 2010 to 2025. This groundbreaking study, which took 13 years to complete, was the first national-level study of middle grades students. Under her direction, the study introduced innovative elements in educational research and set new standards for longitudinal design and implementation.

From 2007 to 2010, Dr. Grim worked as a research scientist and psychometrician at the Center for Applied Linguistics. Her work during this period further solidified her expertise in psychometrics and measurement education. From 1989 to 1998, Dr. Grim served as principal investigator on a major Department of Education FIPSE grant, developing innovative methodologies for teaching nonverbal and cross-cultural communication skills to language learners. From 1998 to 2007, she operated an independent evaluation consulting practice, specializing in educational assessment methodologies while pursuing her doctoral degree.

Dr. Grim's academic journey began with a Bachelor of Arts in French literature from the University of Georgia. She furthered her education with a Master of Education in foreign language education from the same institution and a Master of Education in interactive technology from the Harvard Graduate School of Education in 1987. Her pursuit of knowledge culminated with a PhD in educational research, measurement & evaluation from Boston College in 2007. These academic achievements have been instrumental in her success, providing a strong foundation for her work in both language education and psychometrics.

Throughout her career, Dr. Grim has been actively involved with several industry-related organizations, including the National Council on Measurement in Education, the American Educational Research Association and the Association for Middle Level Education. Her contributions to these organizations underscore her commitment to advancing educational research and practice.

Dr. Grim's dedication to her field is further evidenced by her ongoing contributions to significant works such as the "NCES Psychometric Standards" project since 2023 and the "Middle Grades Longitudinal Study of 2017-18" project since 2012. Her work has been recognized with accolades such as the Graduate Student Award from AERA. She attributes her success to her focus, commitment to specific goals, persistence and optimism.

Fluent in English, French, German and Spanish, Dr. Grim enjoys a variety of personal interests including cooking, gardening, enjoying her pets, downhill skiing, knitting and crafting. Looking ahead, she is focused on preserving national-level education data for future generations, reflecting her commitment to public service and community enrichment.
