PRESCOTT, AZ, August 07, 2025 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Grant E. DuBois, PhD, has been selected for inclusion in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Dr. DuBois has dedicated over five decades to the field of food and beverage technology, with a particular focus on reducing calories in consumable products. As the Chief Scientific Officer at Almendra since 2012, he has been instrumental in developing innovative solutions to address the lingering sweet aftertaste problem in sugar alternatives. Dr. DuBois most notable achievement at Almendra is the invention of the "System G" taste modulators, mixtures of nutritionally important potassium, magnesium and calcium mineral salts which substantially reduce the lingering sweet aftertastes of all noncaloric sweeteners while also adding a very pleasant sugar-like mouthfeel. This initiative is particularly meaningful to him due to its potential to improve human health by reducing sugar and high fructose corn syrup intake. Dr. DuBois also served as VP Research & Chief Technology Officer for Crave Crush from 2013 to 2014, where his work led to a gymnemic acid based weight loss product known as CraveCrush.
Before his tenure with Almendra, Dr. DuBois served as the Director of Ingredient and Product Sciences at The Coca-Cola Company from 1992 to 2011. His work at Coca-Cola led to 1) the first sugar-free frozen carbonated beverages, 2) discovery and commercialization of SucralGEM and SucroGEM, the first positive allosteric modulators of the sweetener receptor in a collaboration with Senomyx, and 3) the commercialization of the stevia sweetener rebaudioside A. During this time, he was recognized as the first Research Fellow of the company, a testament to his contributions and leadership in the industry. Recruited to join Coca-Cola while employed by The NutraSweet Company, Dr. DuBois excelled as the Director of Chemical Products Discovery between 1984 and 1992, where he played a pivotal role in advancing sweetener technologies in a program, which led to the discovery and commercial development of Neotame.
Dr. DuBois began his career as a Group Leader at Dynapol Company in 1973, followed by a similar role at Syva Company from 1981 to 1984. His extensive experience in these positions laid the foundation for his later achievements and innovations in the field.
In preparation for his future success in the field, Dr. DuBois began his academic journey with a Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry and Mathematics from Capital University in 1967, where he was influenced by supportive professors who provided essential mentorship. He went on to earn a Doctor of Philosophy in Organic Chemistry from the University at Buffalo in 1972, followed by Postdoctoral Research in Organic Chemistry at Stanford University from 1972 to 1973.
Throughout his career, Dr. DuBois has been an active member of several professional organizations, including the American Chemical Society, the Institute of Food Technologists and the Association for Chemoreception Sciences.
In recognition of his contributions to science and technology, Dr. DuBois has received several prestigious awards, including being named a Distinguished Alumnus by his alma mater Capital University and being inducted into his high school's Wall of Fame. These accolades reflect his commitment to excellence and innovation within his field. Dr. DuBois attributes much of his success to his parents' encouragement throughout his education and encouragement from his wife during his career in industry.
With an eye to the future, Dr. DuBois looks forward to Almendra's commercialization of the System G taste modulator technology he invented across a wide range of products furthering his impact on the food and beverage industry.
