From 1985 to 2023, Mr. Burton served in multiple capacities with the Los Angeles County Fire Department, including firefighter, paramedic, training officer, recruitment officer and Community Emergency Response Team instructor. His leadership was especially evident in his role as recruitment captain in 1994, when he spearheaded innovative programs, including the Girls Fire Camp. Recognized as the first of its kind on the West Coast, Mr. Burton collaborated with female firefighters to establish the Women's Fire Prep Academy in Southern California. These initiatives have significantly advanced inclusion and diversity within the department.

In addition to his consulting work, Mr. Burton currently teaches part-time at Dorsey High School in Los Angeles, a historically Black institution known for its strong fire service program, and at a high school in Bellflower, California. His classes are highly regarded for their engaging and accessible approach to complex topics. Mr. Burton also serves as a historian for the African American Firefighter Museum, where he trains aspiring tour guides, conducts historical presentations and remains active on the advisory council. His expertise has made him a sought-after speaker for major presentations nationwide.

Mr. Burton earned an associate's degree in general studies and a bachelor's degree in organizational leadership from Columbia Southern University in Orange Beach, Alabama. He also completed coursework in business management at West Los Angeles College in Culver City, California, and pursued studies in fire science technology at El Camino College in Torrance, California. Mr. Burton's professional development also included a career technical education clear credential certification from the Los Angeles County Office of Education, a certificate of completion from the Executive Development Institute at Dillard University in New Orleans, Louisiana, paramedic preceptor training and paramedic training from the Los Angeles County Department of Health Services, and numerous specialized certifications in fire operations, management and nonprofit leadership.

Mr. Burton's professional affiliations are extensive and include membership in the California State Firefighters Association, the California Professional Firefighters Association, the International Association of Black Professional Firefighters, the International Society of Fire Service Instructors and the Southbay Training Officers Association. His civic engagement is equally distinguished. Since 1995, Mr. Burton has contributed to the Carl Holmes Executive Development Institute, where he has played a pivotal role in shaping future leaders in the fire service as a member of its board of directors. His engagement has also included serving as the director of the Junior Firefighter Youth Foundation since 2003, as a board chair of the Los Angeles CARES Mentoring Movement under the National CARES Mentoring Movement since 2008, involvement with organizations such as the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, and various organizations dedicated to community upliftment, education and cultural preservation.

In light of his contributions, Mr. Burton earned a Los Angeles County Fire Department's Overachievers Award in 2005, the Community Leader and Optimizing Change Award from Bank of America Corporation's Black Professional Group in 2009, President's Award from the International Association of Black Professional Firefighters in 2006, Making a Difference Award from St. Mark AME Church in Long Beach in 2016 and, among others, a Man of Valor Award from the Los Angeles NAACP Youth Council in 2018. Throughout his career, Mr. Burton has also received numerous Letters of Appreciation for his speaking engagements at career days from elementary through community college levels, as well as several department commendations.

Mr. Burton attributes his achievements to the positive influences of mentors and role models throughout his life, the opportunities provided by the fire service and the inspiration drawn from his family. Dedicated to leaving a legacy defined by compassion, mentorship and service to others, he is committed to ensuring the continued success of his projects by involving new leaders while supporting and guiding the younger generation.
