CINCINNATI, OH, December 23, 2025 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Calvin Harper has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Mr. Harper has established a distinguished career in youth development and education, currently serving as the director of youth programs at Cincinnati Museum Center since 2010. In this capacity, he focuses on career and leadership development for children ages 13 to 18, exposing them to diverse career paths and encouraging interests beyond their immediate environment. He organizes college tours and invites professionals, including college counselors, engineers, doctors, lawyers and skilled tradespeople, to speak with youth, broadening their perspectives and helping them identify potential interests.
Prior to his current role, Mr. Harper was the senior youth program coordinator at Cincinnati Museum Center from 2007 to 2010. During this period, he developed and implemented programs designed to engage young people in educational activities and foster personal growth. His leadership contributed to the expansion of outreach initiatives that connected students with mentors and resources critical for academic and professional success.
Before joining Cincinnati Museum Center, Mr. Harper gained experience in the private sector with L'Oréal and Avon. At L'Oréal, he managed capital projects, ensured compliance with safety regulations and coordinated staff training and plant operations. At Avon, he managed production lines, supervised teams, implemented cross-training and oversaw quality and budget management. Mr. Harper also served as a line lead at Chrysler, overseeing production teams and ensuring operational efficiency.
Earlier in his career, Mr. Harper worked as a shuttle systems trainer at NASA for four years. In this role, he trained astronauts during the day and dedicated his evenings to teaching tumbling and gymnastics to their children. His unique ability to bridge technical expertise with youth mentorship set the foundation for his later work in education and community engagement.
Throughout his professional journey, Mr. Harper has been actively involved in several industry-related organizations, including the National Society of Black Engineers, the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics, Executive Curriculum for Emerging Leaders (EXCEL), Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc. and Association of Science & Technology Centers. These affiliations have provided him with valuable networks and opportunities to advance his mission to support youth development.
Mr. Harper's educational background includes a Bachelor of Science in Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering from Tuskegee University in Tuskegee, Alabama. This academic achievement equipped him with a strong foundation in problem-solving and analytical thinking, which he has applied throughout his multifaceted career. Additionally, he is certified in cardiopulmonary resuscitation, reflecting his commitment to safety and preparedness in all environments.
Mr. Harper's dedication extends beyond professional responsibilities into civic engagement. He serves on the Local School Decision Making Committee at Robert A Taft Information Technology High School, contributing to policies that impact student outcomes. He is also chairman of Project Alpha, a position he has held for seven years, where he educates young men about the risks associated with premarital sex, sexually transmitted diseases and substance abuse while emphasizing responsibility in relationships.
Known for his dedication to youth and community development, Mr. Harper has received numerous awards recognizing his impact. These include the 2013 Outstanding Volunteer Program award from Cincinnati Association of Volunteer Administrators, Butler-Bain Award from Cincinnati Museum Center in 2024 reflecting his unwavering commitment to service and excellence. His work was also highlighted in Movers & Makers' "NOTABLES: Helping Teens Succeed" in 2025, underscoring his ongoing efforts to empower the next generation.
A servant leader by nature, Mr. Harper is also deeply involved in mentoring as a Big Brother through a faith-based organization — one of the few actively serving both boys and girls in this capacity. He has coached cheerleading teams at multiple high schools as a tumbling coach, further demonstrating his dedication to youth empowerment.
Mr. Harper's evolving perspective on success now centers on making a positive impact on others' lives rather than material accomplishments, a philosophy that guides every aspect of his work with youth and community organizations. He aims to raise awareness and expose youth to a variety of options and opportunities. Mr. Harper believes it is important not to dwell on global conditions or generational issues. As someone who grew up in the 1970s, he recognizes that childhood experiences have changed significantly.
At the same time, Mr. Harper emphasizes that young people need to understand that nothing will be handed to them. He strives to instill a strong work ethic in children, encouraging them to pursue their goals and reminding them that if they do not succeed at first, they should try again, a principle he lives by.
Born in Cincinnati, Mr. Harper values family life and enjoys spending time with his son, attending his sports activities and caring for his mother. He finds fulfillment not only in his own achievements but also in the successes of those he has mentored, many of whom have gone on to become doctors, lawyers, educators or professionals in fields such as skills trade, marketing and acting.
Looking ahead, Mr. Harper aims to expand programs that provide youth with opportunities to gain exposure to new experiences beyond Cincinnati. He envisions taking children on educational trips to cities and states across the country to learn about diverse histories and cultures, while increasing staff capacity to serve more participants. Securing additional sponsors and engaging professionals from corporate America and the skilled trades remain central goals as Mr. Harper continues to demonstrate the variety of options available to young people.
