Marked by his lifelong expertise in music as well as significant contributions to the paper and chemical trades, Mr. Dingman has led a distinguished career spanning nearly six decades. Since 2013, he has been recognized as a self-employed musician, singer and guitarist with Dan Dingman Music. In this capacity, he has performed at wineries, brewpubs and numerous assisted living facilities, where his shows are especially appreciated by senior citizens.
Though his journey counts many milestones, Mr. Dingman is particularly proud of his achievements as an established national anthem singer for major sports teams in Portland, Oregon. His renditions have been featured for the Portland Trail Blazers, the Portland Winterhawks on three occasions, the Portland Timbers six times and the Portland Thorns twice. Additionally, he has sung the national anthem at four local fairs and concerts, sharing stages with renowned bands such as the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, Blood Sweat and Tears, Blue Öyster Cult and Kansas.
Prior to focusing on music full time, Mr. Dingman completed his tenure as a quality systems engineer at the WestRock paper mill in Longview, Washington, from 2018 to 2022. In this role, he managed the company's quality control program and led a team of 10 hourly union workers responsible for continuous paper testing operations. Concurrently, from 2016 to 2022, he served as a quality systems manager at KapStone Paper and Packaging Corporation, overseeing similar responsibilities within the organization.
Over the course of 16 years in sales as an account manager at Buckman Laboratories International, Mr. Dingman specialized in providing specialty chemicals and solutions to paper mills, not only selling products but also implementing chemical applications and feed systems to help clients achieve their production and quality objectives. His earlier tenure at Buckman included three years as a senior development specialist, where he contributed to research and development for flotation and wash deinking initiatives.
Throughout the middle of the 1990s, Mr. Dingman held multiple roles in laboratory management at both Vinings Industries and Lion Industries, where he oversaw laboratory functions supporting mill trials, new product formulation and technical customer service.
Mr. Dingman's early experience includes serving as a research technician for Boise Cascade Research and Development from 1990 to 1994. During this period, he also gained valuable experience as a production engineer intern at Boise Cascade St. Helens Pulp Mill in 1993. His foundational roles include analytical chemist at Columbia Analytical Services from 1988 to 1990 and senior technician at Spectra Technology from 1987 to 1988.
Hailing from an equally accomplished academic background, Mr. Dingman earned a Bachelor of Science in physics from Western Washington University in 1986, graduating magna cum laude and being named Outstanding Graduate of the Year. Two years earlier, he completed an Associate of Applied Science at Lower Columbia College. Determined to make an impactful outside the classroom as well, he worked as a commercial fisherman in Alaska during his college years and was known for successful mountain climbing endeavors in his youth.
Though he dedicated much of his career to science and production, music has been a lifelong passion for Mr. Dingman since he began taking lessons at age 7. While excelling academically and graduating at the top of his class, he maintained an active involvement in music alongside his commitments in the paper industry. Reflecting on his storied journey to date, he is immensely grateful to his wife Aleina for her unwavering support throughout his journey and attributes his musical talent as a gift from God.
Beyond his professional endeavors, Mr. Dingman is civically engaged as a music leader at his church and volunteers for multiple charity events. He has also contributed to Hair We Share in New York through donations in support of individuals experiencing medical hair loss.
Mr. Dingman's widespread musical accomplishments and community impact have seen him recognized with several honors including a full-length feature in The Reflector, which also named him among the Best of the Best Musicians in 2025.
In his personal life, Mr. Dingman enjoys gardening and working on his yard, spending time with his dogs and traveling with Aleina as they embrace their retirement years together.
