His professional journey began with service as a staff sergeant and non-commissioned officer in the United States Air Force from 2007 to 2012. Specializing as an airborne Korean linguist after nearly two years of intensive training at the Defense Language Institute in Monterey, Dr. Martin performed airborne reconnaissance missions across multiple aircraft platforms with a focus on intelligence gathering. He completed three tours in Afghanistan, during which he was cross-trained in signals operations to meet deployment-specific needs. His military tenure was marked by leadership development—most notably earning the John Levitow Award upon graduating from Airman Leadership School—and recognition for exemplary service, including the Air Force Commendation Medal, the USAF Marksmanship Medal, multiple Air Medals for nearly 5,000 sorties flown, and various deployment medals. Dr. Martin's academic background has been instrumental to his success. He earned his fellowship in pain medicine from Brigham and Women's Hospital, through Harvard Medical School, in Boston, following completion of a residency in emergency medicine at the University of Arizona College of Medicine in Tucson. He received his Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha in 2019 after completing a bachelor's degree in general studies at the University of Nebraska at Omaha—a program that included correspondence courses taken while stationed overseas during military service.

He holds certification as a qualified medical evaluator in California, which enables him to provide specialized assessments for workers' compensation cases statewide.
